While it doesn’t have the superstar chefs or monied clientele of some other restaurants in the DMV, Evening Star has been able to establish itself as one of the best restaurants in the region since its 1997 debut. (We think it has something to do with the eatery's Southern-tinged menu, inventive cocktails, and lovely dining spaces, like the rooftop garden and pop-up patio.)
Regulars sing the praises of brunch at Evening Star, especially the chicken and waffles with duck hash, sweet potato biscuit sliders, and mimosas. Fried chicken is also a star on the dinner menu, along with fried catfish and Southern-style cornbread. Regulars suggest asking your server to suggest a wine pairing, as the adjoining storefront has thousands of selections to choose from, and the servers are well trained in making good selections.
Make note, The Frasier residents: The restaurant's cozy lounge area, featuring leather armchairs and a lovely bar, hosts local musicians on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
