Date night. For couples—both old and new—across the land, this is a beloved ritual that’s (hopefully) practiced weekly. And Alexandria, Virginia residents are extra lucky when it comes to picking out romantic and fun spots. The city is chock-full of ‘em. These great date night ideas in Alexandria are sure to impress your sweetheart.
Perk Up
OK. So dates at a coffee shop are somewhat cliché, but there’s nothing like going to a coffee shop with your date. Maybe it’s your first one. Or maybe you’ve been together for years. Either way, Alexandria’s hippest and too-good-to-miss spot is M.E. Swing’s. Here, you can look forward to a warm, yet industrial atmosphere with just the right details, such as vintage clocks. We’d suggest cozying up on one of the comfy chairs by the windows as you sip your ethically-sourced, artisanal coffee.
Get Some Sugar
One of our favorite restaurant openings as of late? Sugar Shack. Originally started in Richmond, Virginia, this shop churns out high-quality, irresistible doughnuts. Take your sweetie (ha!) here to stock up some sweets. We’re fans of the classics, such as vanilla chocolate chips, but also love newer options, such as the bacon maple. Before you head out, be sure to check this location’s Facebook page. Every day, the business announces one thing you have to do (e.g., talk like a pirate), and you can nab a free doughnut. Sounds pretty sweet to us!
Try Some Dancing
Ah, the lost art of dancing. If you’re about to throw your own wedding or are going to attend a wedding soon, consider taking dance lessons to show off your skills. You can try swing, salsa, or tango at the Dance Studio Lioudmila. Before you know it, you’ll be tearing it up on the dance floor like our favorite Mad Men couple. Even if you don’t, the video is just precious.
Have a Romantic Staycation
Sometimes it’s nice to get away. Even if it’s just for a night. Even if it’s a hotel that’s a few miles from your home. And we’d suggest trying out Hotel Monaco or the Lorien Hotel & Spa. Hotel Monaco is an ultra modern space with touches of colonial décor, such as chaises decked out in colonial blue and Virginia’s state bird, the red cardinal. When you get hungry, try a specialty cocktail and some very Southern food at the hotel’s restaurant Jackson 20. We’d suggest the signature fried green tomatoes.
The Lorien is another modern spot with a quaint feel. Head here if you want to do a spa day with your honey. Consider getting a couple’s massage to relax together. Be sure to check out the property’s happy hour from 5 to 6 p.m. daily to nab complimentary wine.
After you get home from your great date, you’ll want an equally great place in Alexandria to call home. And you’ll want to consider The Frasier. This luxurious, amenity-packed property will be perfect for you and your significant other. Contact us today to secure your spot at this dreamy apartment community.
