Take a Walk on the Wild Side This Holiday Season With a Visit to ZooLights at the Smithsonian Zoo, Not Far From The Frasier

Want to take a walk on the wild side this holiday season, The Frasier residents? Check out ZooLights! Held annually, this family-friendly event transforms the Smithsonian Zoo into a winter wonderland for 34 days out of the year.

As soon as the sun sets, more than a half-million LED lights flicker on throughout the 163-acre zoo, illuminating its pathways with dazzling displays, many of which follow an animal theme. (This year, the event will also feature a brand-new light show set to music.) As you walk throughout the zoo, be sure to make a pit stop to enjoy a spin on the Conservation Carousel and zoom down the snowless snow-tube track of Lion/Tiger Hill, then relax with a scenic ride on the National Zoo Choo-choo (all rides are $3 per person). And don't forget to say hi to some of the zoo's residents: The Great Ape House, Small Mammal House, Reptile Discovery Center, and a few other exhibit buildings will remain open for the event.

Taking place now through Jan. 2, ZooLights is absolutely free to attend. Seasonal food and drinks (hot cocoa, kettlecorn, cookies) are available for purchase.
